WHAT IS IT?

The regular Double-Double is a burger of toasted buns, two cheese slices, two beef patties, onions, lettuce, tomato and house spread. The Animal Style Double-Double has two beef patties grilled with mustard and two cheese slices, topped with house sauce, pickles and grilled caramelized onions.

In-N-Out Burger has various locations in Los Angeles but the one nearest to LAX was the one Anthony Bourdain visited. He also ordered a chocolate shake at the drive-through.

DISH – Chicken Balls, Classic Biscuits, and Crispy Chicken Sandwich

WHAT IS IT?

Chicken Balls – chicken meat brined overnight, shaped into balls then fried; Classic Biscuit – baked with honey and lavender; Crispy Chicken Sandwich – batter-fried chicken, coleslaw with red wine vinaigrette and béarnaise sauce on bread.

Tacos Villa Corona is a family-run hole-in-the-wall taco counter-serve famous for its Mexican fare. For Mexican fruits, Bourdain suggested visiting one of the Mexican fruit stands in the streets of L.A. for fresh cuts of fruits like mango, coconut and pineapple. The cuts of fruits are placed in a plastic bag and drizzled with salt, chili and lime.

DISH – Marrow Bone, Chicken Hearts, Hamachi Tostada, Coconut Sweetbreads, Pig Tails, Crispy Rabbit Legs, and Foie Gras Loco Moco

WHAT IS IT?

Anthony Bourdain did not stop by Kokekokko on this episode but suggested it if you are looking for a Japanese izakaya experience in Los Angeles. As of this writing, Kokekokko has closed in this location and in its place a new Japanese restaurant is currently operating. Bourdain also suggested Red Medicine as another late-night spot, but the non-traditional Vietnamese restaurant has also closed as of this writing. On this trip, he visited Jumbo’s Clown Room, which he called the “last refuge for the ancient art of burlesque” in Los Angeles. And although he did not visit The Varnish, he suggested it for bespoke cocktails, like the Queen’s Park Swizzle.
