Equipment

  • Pot on the stove
  • fine mesh sieve
  • Coffee mug

Ingredients
  

  • 4 L unfiltered apple juice
  • 250 ml whole fresh cranberries or frozen, but unsweetened
  • Half orange, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 2 slices fresh ginger about 3 cm diameter each
  • 15 ml garlic cloves whole
  • 15 ml allspice seeds whole
  • 1 cinnamon stick per serving
  • 1 tiny pinch of salt
  • 60 ml brown sugar
  • 45 ml dark rum per serving

Instructions
 

  • Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil
  • Reduce temperature and simmer for 45 minutes to an hour
  • Strain the mixture
  • In a coffee cup, put 45 ml (1.5 oz) of dark rum
  • Fill the cup with the hot cider
  • Garnish the cocktail with a cinnamon stick and serve

Notes

This is an incredibly simple cocktail to make, delicious, warm and inviting. It's also a punch - follow this recipe to make 20 servings!
