Whereas before, tourists would shy away from exotic foods, thanks to him, travellers now go the extra mile to find and try local bites. In Parts Unknown Hanoi, Anthony Bourdain went on a Ha Long Bay cruise aboard a refurbished French steamer of Emeraude. He described it as having “all the modern conveniences”, as well as “all the charms of the past”.

Bún chả Hương Liên is a classic, funky, family-run noodle shop where Anthony Bourdain had Bún Chả and beer with former US President Barack Obama. Since then, the noodle shop has been referred to as the “Obama spot” and “Bún chả Obama”.
