Our Favourite Poutines In Montreal And Where To Get Them

It doesn’t get much more Quebecois than poutine. Fries, gravy, cheese curds – done right, it’s one of the most delicious, satisfying dishes around. So to make sure you know what good, authentic poutine tastes like, here is the list of the best poutine in Montreal!

Au Pied De Cochon

It’s simple: it’s not only the best poutine in Montreal, it is the best poutine in the world. The foie gras poutine by chef Martin Picard includes a wonderful pan-seared lobe of foie gras, fries triple-cooked in duck fat, and a homemade sauce that includes cream. Beware of imitations!

Chez Claudette

One of the most old-school restaurants in the whole city. Obviously their “regular” poutine is superb, but for an extra hit of childhood nostalgia (and artery-clogging fat), try the pogo poutine, topped with a sliced corn dog!

Chez Tousignant

Old meets new. Chez Tousignant makes Quebecois fast food with all-fresh, homemade ingredients. The old diner look of the dining room is just a plus.

Montreal Pool Room

When it comes to serving drunk party-goers at 3am on Saint-Laurent street, Montreal Pool Room is the champion. It first opened in 1912. And since they serve some of the best fries in the city, it goes without saying that their poutine is a solid addition to the list of the best poutine in Montreal.

Broue Pub Brouhaha

It may not be a restaurant per se, but the poutine at Brouhaha, the brewpub of the Rosemont neighbourhood, deserves to be in this list of hits. Brouhaha’s “poutiflette” (a mix of Poutine and Tartiflette) is one of the best poutine dishes in the world!

Patati Patata

Tiny, colourful, and always full of customers, Patati Patata focuses on potatoes. And since the main ingredient – indeed, the critical ingredient – of poutine is the fries, Patati Patata has earned itself a place on this list.

La Banquise

La Banquise is (rightfully) on the list of all the tour guides, and most tourists will try it at least once (a wise decision). This establishent’s well-deserved reputation draws legendary line-ups at 3:15 am on summer nights. What more can be said?
